Fantastic product! My 3 year old can't tell time yet and doesn't always remember numbers well anyway. He was starting to get up at 5am and come into our room. Enter Sam the Lamb, one of his new best friends! Sam stays asleep until 6:30, so if my son wakes up early Sam lets him know that he should go back to sleep, which he does. Great product with a lot of upside. Here's what I would change - the eyes make a slight "click" sound when they open, which my son has tuned in to. So now on days when he would sleep later than usual, Sam becomes his alarm clock and occasionally wakes him up before his body is ready. Also, the nap feature has only 4 time options, which would be nice to have more control over. Other than those two suggestions, this is a fantastic product, is fun for kids, and works extremely well!It does seem to work for my 3 year old who would otherwise come out of her room 10times a night. Now she knows to wait for Sam the Lamb to wake first. The controls are set up a bit weird but it only takes a few nights to figure it out. The clock turns green 1/2 hour before the wake up time, I recommend you set the wake up time to 1/2 hour after you want them to wake as the green is good enough for them. Then I set the sound to come on right at wake time when he opens his eyes. Now about a week into it she really does use it well. My only hang up is not being able to program it, you basically have to set it up every single night, but we do like to change times on week days from weekends and sleep in so its not so baaaaaaad (pun). Also the children will play with his eyes forcing them open, but clearly the designers figured this would happen and it really does not harm the clock.Update: 10-17-17 So my daughter (now 4) no longer needs this to tell her when to get up and its been turned off for about six months now. Last night however our power went out for about 10 minutes and when it came back on the I heard a super loud continuous tone filling the whole house, its was Sam the sleep timer, the face was solid bright green with no numbers or marks at all and a tone so loud I could not hear my daughter telling me to turn it off. After ripping the cord out of the wall (which should have been done six months ago) it was silent once again. So if you want a free one hit me up I will be happy to send you mine.Sam gets 5 stars so far. I just set it up and it all went very well. Before i even received it, i was ready to send it back because of the bad reviews but good thing i am the type of person that has to see for myself. The instructions worked very well once I figured out what the arrows were all about. It took about 15 mins to setup. i played with it for about 45 mins to make sure i knew what everything did. I liked that the night light can be kept on all night.Just one minor thing...It does feel a little fragile. Every time i pick it up, I am really careful with it because I feel like I'm going to break it. I guess i was expecting it to be a little heavier. Its really light and feels like it can be easily broken if mishandled. Most likely I will not use it for what it's for because my kids have no issues with sleeping or waking up but i thought the clock was so cute and i like the opening and closing of the eyes. It will be in my 5mth old son's room (my 3yr old son is going to be jealous and probably want one too :-)). I just wanted a clock i could see at night when i get up to nurse him. This clock is really cute and i like it. I have been searching for a nursery clock for a long time but I could not find one that i liked enough and as soon as I saw this one, i lit up and was determined to get it even with the bad reviews. I figured if it wasn't too bad, I'll would just deal with the issues and was really hoping that all of the bad reviews were wrong. So far it has been a winner and everything works for me.If anything adverse happens, I will be checking back in and giving another review.I've been using this with my toddler since August 2017. Since its arrival it has been full of glitches. Resetting it has not resolved any of the glitches. The most irritating is that the yellow "almost time" light comes on some days and not others. The inconsistency has resulted in a lot of confusion for my toddler because sometimes at 6:53 a.m. it is yellow, and sometimes still red. If the yellow light is working, he'll wait for the green light to declare "wake up time!" and ask to go "downstairs!" If the yellow light is not working, he sees the red light and loses patience because he has no idea if the green light is even close to coming on, so he ignores the whole thing. If this would work consistently it might actually help "train" him.The AM/PM time format refuses to stay set. It switches itself back to 24-hour mode every day. Annoying only for me, since a toddler doesn't know. When the back light timer is set to anything other than "continuous", results vary. Sometimes it goes according to its programming and sometimes it just picks a random amount of time to stay lit - 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes, for example.Aesthetically, it's one of the cutest okay-to-wake clocks on the market, but a soft or plush animal would be even better. The opening and closing eyes are a big hit with my toddler. But, as other reviewers have noted, they make a loud "CLUNK" when opening in the morning, so if your child would've slept a little later, they'll be woken anyway. The eyes are robust enough that a toddler trying to hold/force them open or closed does not break them. They just snap back to where they should be after the child lets go.If they could resolve the programming glitches it would be a 3 star product. If they could resolve the programming glitches and create a quieter mechanism for the eyes opening, it would be a 4 star product. If they gave the sheep a plush/soft fabric cover and fluffy/woolly curls on top the head instead of hard molded plastic, it would be a true 5 star product. For $50 I would expect a product to at least work as designed. We used this to help our first son learn to stay in bed to a reasonable hour when our second son was born (and obviously waking at 4.30, 5am or whatever). It worked really well. it is a bit fiddly initially but once you have it set up it's easy enough to change. Best thing is that you can turn the nightlight off altogether, unlike the groclock, so your child can be accustomed to sleeping in total darkness if that's what they prefer. Also you can change the brightness of the nightlight and how long it stays on for. It worked for us, and it survived for about 2 1/2 years with a lot of carting about in bags when we went away. Unfortunately its a bit vulnerable during transport as the sheep's eyes get opened and closed by things rubbing on it - I would highly recommend keeping the box! Which we had. anyway this one just expired so I bought another one - the colours are different (red at night, orange for waking up and green for day time. That took a bit of adjusting to but actually the red night light is better, it's not so bright as the blue was. We've kept the box of this one for going on holiday/visits etc to protect this one better. I'm going to get another for son number 2 now as he is driving me mad waking at 6am!I don’t understand why this product hasn’t got lots of 5 stars. People say it’s difficult to set up... read the manual properly and you’ll know how! I figured it out in 5 minutes and I think this clock is amazing. My little one (2yo) understands when to sleep and wake up. The best feature is the nap timer, I set it for 2 hours during the day for toddlers nap. I think it’s a great product. Let’s see how long it lasts before it breaks down, I hope not! Daumen hoch! This now even travels with us, great for dealing with time zones. Keep the box so you can pack it! Put batteries in and then when you unplug it it will keep your settings. Our autistic son adores his sheep, and he obeys it perfectly. The red glows all night, not too bright so it's not disturbing. There is half an hour of orange before wake up time. Then it turns green, but only for a minute - I wish it stayed lit, but I guess it saves electricity. I love that it has both analogue and digital time. It is simply the best.I really like this product - my 3 year old son now knows when he needs to put his lights out at night, and also when to get up. We are no longer being woken up by him at 5am! He took to it right away and is also using it to learn to tell the time. We liked it so much, we ended up getting two so that he can use one at my parents house when he stays over. One that was sent had a fault, but the seller sent a replacement quickly.I like that the night light isn't on all night so won't interfere with sleep, but it comes on when touched, so my son can check the time if he wakes up in the night. The colour system (red, amber, green) is very simple for him to understand. Some people have mentioned that the noise of the eyes opening wakes their kids up. The first one I bought was a little noisy and may have woken him up, but the more recent version is quieter. Over-all, it's such an improvement on being woken up very early and it has definitely improved his sleep routine. Note that it doesn't come with a plug (just a USB cable) but it can be powered with a USB phone charger plug or with batteries.
